Hannah Montana the Target of Anti-Gay Groups for Supporting Marriage Equality

Anti-gay group, One Million Moms, a "Project of the American Family Association," released a statement in objection to Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana's Twitter statements that expressed the young pop star's support for marriage equality.

Miley Cyrus said what?

"Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus recently made statements supporting gay marriage.

Her comments were in response to a question posed to Miss California Carrie Prejean in the April 19 Miss USA Pageant. Homosexual celeblogger Perez Hilton was the pageant judge who asked Prejean her opinion of same-sex marriage, to which she responded that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Outraged by her response, Hilton began blasting the beauty queen and asked for celebrities to share their thoughts on gay marriage.

Miley Cyrus responded to Hilton through her Twitter.com account with the following comments:

• "Everyone deserves to love and be loved and most importantly smile."

• "Jesus loves you and your partner and wants you to know how much he cares! That's like a daddy not loving his lil boy cuz he's gay and that is wrong and very sad!

• "Like I said everyone deserves to be happy."

• "God’s greatest commandment is to love. And judging is not loving."

• "I am a Christian and I love you - gay or not - because you are no different than anyone else! We are all God's children."

Such statements will send the wrong message to our children who are influenced by this teenage megastar. Parents need to realize that Cyrus is not the positive role model she was once thought to be.

Take Action

Send Miley Cyrus a letter stating that you do not approve of her comments.

Clearly she is confused and does not understand the Bible. Please pray for the Lord to open her eyes to the truth.

Sincerely,

P.S. Please forward this to your family and friends!
Yes, clearly she's confused. Doesn't she know that "loving thy neighbor" doesn't include those damn homosexuals? OMG! What about the children?!

Their call to action is to write Miley a letter letting her know that they do not approve of her comments. I would like to know what exactly in her statements do they object to? Everyone deserves love and happiness? Smile? Jesus loves you? We are all God's children? Doesn't matter that you're gay?

WHOA. Wait a second. I think I found it. The pop star said "gay" and that being gay doesn't matter.

These "moms" have obviously lost track of the true point of Jesus' message - All are equal in the eyes of God and deserve his love.

I've never been a real fan of Miley. And I know she didn't write those statements herself. But she approved them. And guess what? She just gained a new fan*. And a gay one at that.

ACTION: Twitter your thanks to Miley (and her people) for making a stand. Outnumber the opponents slamming her for saying what is right.

*DISCLAIMER: Not a fan of the music. Just Miley herself.

Michigan TV Station Ditches Plans to Air Antigay "Infomercial"

"Speechless: Silencing Christians", an anti-gay infomercial produced by the infamous American Family Association known for its obsession with the "Homosexual Agenda", was canceled from airing on a Michigan TV station.

Here is the infomercial.

PART 1

PART 2 (Ann Coulter and the homosexual agenda in this part)

PART 3 (Their objections to gay history in schools)

As I have blogged before, the AFA cries foul when they're told to be quiet and cry censorship, but if we are seen on television in any ad or medium in which we are treated as equals, they'll boycott. Here's an example of an ad they complained so much about, it was immediately pulled off the air in the UK (yes, they attack outside of America, too):

I do agree with one aspect of the AFA's infomercial title - I'm "speechless."

American Family Assocation Boycotting, But Says We Can't

The American Family Association, whose name let's you know it's a US organization, is still obsessing over what they call the homosexual agenda and are now targeting their homophobia at the UK and Pespi's ad that's playing only there.

UK Pepsi Ad:

The AFA is now organizing a boycott against Pepsi (and many other gay friendly companies - more on that below). This is the same organization closely tied to Protect Marriage.com, who led the Yes on 8 Campaign and gave them over half a million dollars to fight gay marriage in California.

What's extremely hypocritical is that the Protect Marriage people recently sued the state of California because of its campaign donor full disclosure law which makes it mandatory that donors' information for any campaign be made public. The reason why they sued? Because they said they were being harassed for their "support of traditional marriage," and by harassed they mainly meant that their businesses were being "boycotted." (Thankfully the state disregarded their complaint and said the LGBT had a right to boycott and was protected under free speech.) To put it simply, the AFA thinks it's swell for them to boycott, but that it's completely wrong for us to do so, going as far as suing a state to stop us. Didn't Jesus say something about hypocrisy? Mark 7:6 - “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.’”

The LGBT community must, at all costs, protect our allies from such hypocrisy. PepsiCo has been a staunch ally for LGBT people, donating $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign and another $500,000 to Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). After the AFA threatened to boycott them if they didn't stop supporting the LGBT, PepsiCo flatly told them, in other nicer words, to shut up.

To thank PepsiCo for its support, contact them at (914) 253-2000 or email. And be sure to keep buying their products.

Another company on the AFA's target list is Campbell's Soup. And why? Because the company issued a print ad for one of its soups portraying two mothers and their son. Even though they felt pressure of a boycott from the AFA, Campbell's refused to stop running the ad.

To show your support of Campbell's Soup, contact them through their website.

Unfortunately, there are companies buckling under the AFA's scrutiny and scorn. One in particular is McDonalds. After joining the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, they received scorn for "supporting the gay agenda" and, naturally, the AFA boycotted. As a result, McDonald's Vice President Richard Ellis resigned from the NGLCC, appeasing the right-wing organization and ending the boycott.

This decision is in direction contradiction to the company's core values. Here's an excerpt:

McDonald's Values

We are committed to our people
We provide opportunity, nurture talent, develop leaders and reward achievement. We believe that a team of well-trained individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, working together in an environment that fosters respect and drives high levels of engagement, is essential to our continued success.

We give back to our communities
We take seriously the responsibilities that come with being a leader. We help our customers build better communities, support Ronald McDonald House Charities, and leverage our size, scope and resources to help make the world a better place.

We strive continually to improve
We are a learning organization that aims to anticipate and respond to changing customer, employee and system needs through constant evolution and innovation.

McDonald's Employment Experience

Support for fundamental human rights for all people is part of our global Standards of Business Conduct. We comply with all employment laws in every market where we operate, and we will not employ underage children or forced laborers. We respect the right of employees to associate or not to associate with any group, as permitted by, and in accordance with, applicable laws and regulations.

Respect - Create a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected.

Contact McDonalds and show your disapproval of their joining in on the hypocrisy. And until they change, don't buy any of their products. FYI: McDonald's no longer owns Chipotle Mexican Grill, having sold its shares in 2006.

The Right Wing is Taking Action, Too . . .

. . . and they're just as motivated as ever.

The American Family Association is equally aware of the new White House Website, especially of its Civil Rights Agenda page that lists President Obama's plan to fight for LGBT equality.

The AFA has sent out an action alert to its members, inciting them with hateful language, calling homosexual love "perverted sex" and calling our fight for equal rights "special rights." (They're also on the offense, targeting Campbell's and PepsiCo for their enormous support for the LGBT community. To find out what they're up to, go to AFA Online. You'll find plenty.)

As a community, we need to be sure our voices are equally heard and just as strong as this powerful, organized opposition. There are many things you can do.

1. Send a postcard to President Obama asking him to repeal DOMA.

2. Contact the White House directly and voice your support of Obama and our equal rights:

Switchboard: 202-456-1414
FAX: 202-456-2461
White House Contact Form
White House website

3. Send this mass letter to the president

4. Read and Sign the Petition to expand the Civil Rights Act to LGBT rights.

The list goes on. Visit the sites listed on the right of this blog under "Take Action" and see what they're doing. Don't let the homophobia of right-wing trample on us again.
