For those of us here in California, we know what it's like to have our rights taken away. The campaign to pass Proposition 8 demoralized us with lies and attack ads, and the passage and the aftermath destroyed us. We even witnessed a rise in hate crimes against us.
Though it galvanized us into creating a resurgence in the LGBT rights movement that hasn't been seen in years, the pain is enduring.
And now Washington state and Maine face similar ballot measures that intend to take existing LGBT rights away.
Californians - don't feel helpless. You can contribute to protecting those rights.
Vote For Equality and Equality California have set up phone banks to help these states defeat the opposition by getting supporters out to the ballots. (Read VFE's blog post about working in Maine!)
