New Hampshire Gov. Lynch Responds to State Senate Passing Marriage Equality Bill

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch responded on his website to the state's senate passing the marriage equality bill earlier today.
"I recognize that the issue of same-sex marriage is intensely passionate and personal, and raises strong emotions on all sides.

"I still believe the fundamental issue is about providing the same rights and protections to same-sex couples as are available to heterosexual couples. This was accomplished through the passage of the civil unions law two years ago. To achieve further real progress, the federal government would need to take action to recognize New Hampshire civil unions."
Up to this point, Gov. Lynch had been silent on the issue. With the House expected to pass the few changes the Senate made to its original resolution next week, the bill will most likely be hitting the governor's desk soon.

Does this sound like a veto promise? If you recall, Vermont's Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of that state's marriage equality bill was overturned, resulting in Vermont's legalization of same-sex marriage.

Does New Hampshire have what it takes to overturn a veto?

Let's hope we don't have to find out. Contact the governor and tell him not to veto New Hampshire's marriage equality bill!
