MUST SEE VIDEO: Colbert Skewers Catholic Church on Marriage Equality and Funeral . . . Rights

Remember how the Catholic Church decided to throw the poor and homeless under the bus in an attempt to stop marriage equality from happening in D.C.? And how Rhode Island's Catholic Governor vetoed a bill that would allow domestic partners to make funeral arrangements for each other?

Well, Catholic-raised Colbert has a few choice . . . words on the matter.

Colbert jokes that those who signed the petition to get Referendum 71 on the ballot belong to a minority of intolerance. He refers to the lawsuit that has reached the U.S. Supreme Court to keep those identities private.

"Folks we need to protect this persecuted minority," Colbert quips. "And the only way I can see to do that is for Washington residents to vote in favor of gay domestic partnerships, because then no one will care who signed this petition, and these people can stay in the closet that the gay people have abandoned."

Preach it.

It appears most of America is ready to diss DADT as well. MSNBC reports that 69% of Americans are ready to repeal it. Here's the Gallup Poll they refer to.

Here's the story about the Supreme Court being convinced by Obama not to hear the DADT case.

This is a 6 point jump from four years ago, but here's what's most striking - amongst conservatives, it's a 12 point jump!

We're fighting two wars! Let's just get this STUPID policy repealed already. I'm so sick about Washington DC talking about getting it done and then not doing anything about it. Flapping your jaws isn't action. Maybe this poll will give them a kick in the seat of their pants.

If you want to hear what I just said more eloquently, check out the New York Times piece issued today, "The Ban on Gays in the Military".

VIDEO: Stephen Colbert Reacts to the Prop 8 Ruling

Colbert supports separate but equal, but naturally, we must create many more categories of marriage so that "the gays" aren't the only ones separate. LOL.

VIDEO: Meghan McCain On the Colbert Report - Republican Party Can Be Safe for Gays

Most striking quote:
"I do believe the Republican party can be a safe place for the gay community. President Obama said he was going to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and I think me and a lot of people are still waiting for that. And the Democratic party isn’t necessarily a better place for the gay community than the Republican party is. And I think if you go to the basic beliefs of the Republican party, keeping government out of your life, why can’t that include marriage?
If the Republican party was able to ditch the extremists who are bringing them down, and they returned to their early principles, would you switch parties (if you're not already republican - hello Log Cabiners!)?

Are you equally frustrated with the Democrats? Some are so frustrated, they've called for a boycott of the Democratic National Committee LGBT Leadership Council fund raising dinner. I have to say, until I see some action from the Democrats, I'm agreeing with it.

Why should I give them my money only for them to turn around and say, "Gee, I wish you had equal rights too, but oh well, maybe next time." Times have changed. I'm not accepting empty platitudes as a reason to hand over the bucks from my already broken bank account.

If anything, we need to support Meghan McCain, because she's putting herself out on a limb for us. We need her at our rallies. We need her at our protests. We need her at our press conferences. We need to nurture that support. Because let me tell you folks, it's rare to hear such vocal support for our issues from a straight Republican.

In response, Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) that produced the "Gathering Storms" ads that Colbert is ridiculing, responded, “I’ve always thought Stephen Colbert was a double-agent, pretending to pretend to be a conservative, to pull one over Hollywood. Now I’m sure."

“Thank you Stephen for playing our ad in full on national television — for free. HRC eat your heart out. Plus we all had a great chuckle, too!” said Brian Brown, NOM’s Executive Director. “Where can I make a donation to the National Organization for Colbert?”

It looks to me these two are way out of touch with all things America. These were the same ones who came up with the 2M4M campaign and are now just catching on to what Colbert is all about.

Free advertising? Sure. Do they know Colbert's audience? Nope. Massive more ridicule of NOM? DEFINITELY.
